Search Lancaster County Warrants

A Lancaster County warrant search is the first step toward clearing or confirming an outstanding court order. The local list is built jointly by the Lincoln Police Department and the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office and covers warrants issued by both the Lancaster County Court and the Third Judicial District Court. Many of the names on the list come from missed court dates, unpaid fines, new criminal charges, or open felony files. A Lancaster County warrant lookup returns name, date of birth, agency, charge, and a photo when one is on file. The same page lets the public verify a name without driving downtown.

How to Search Lancaster County Warrants

The official Lancaster County warrant list lives on a city-county joint page hosted by the City of Lincoln. The page is titled City of Lincoln/Lancaster County Police Department and Sheriff's Office Warrants. It pulls warrant entries from both agencies into one searchable view. The list updates on a rolling basis and shows a timestamp at the top of the page. A warrant lookup is free, requires no sign-in, and can be run from any browser. The same page is the one used by clerks, attorneys, and bond agents when they verify status.

A name search runs against the full warrant file and returns one row per warrant. A person with two open warrants will show up twice. The page also offers an A-Z index, which paginates the list across four screens. The index is useful when you want to skim a last-name range without typing. Most users skip the index and type a last name into the search box. The lead-in screenshot below shows the joint warrant page layout, the search box, and the public tip line.

The page is hosted by the City of Lincoln but covers Lancaster County warrants from both agencies. The lookup link is published from the official Lincoln-Lancaster warrant search page, which is the same page the Sheriff's Office links from its own public information section.

The screenshot shows the layout you will see when you run a Lancaster County warrant search, including the A-Z links and the result columns covered later on this page.

  1. Open the official Lincoln-Lancaster warrant search page in a browser.
  2. Type a last name into the Last Name box. A first initial in the First Name box helps narrow common last names.
  3. Click FIND NAME to post the search to the warrant database.
  4. Scan the result rows for the matching date of birth, agency, and charge text.
  5. If a hit appears, call the Lancaster County Court at 402-441-7291 to confirm the warrant before any in-person action.
  6. For tips on someone else's warrant, call the Law Enforcement Warrant Desk at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.

Lancaster County Warrant Search Fields and Filters

The warrant page is built on a simple CGI form. The form posts name input to the city CJIS database. Only two name fields exist on the form, and both are optional, although at least one must be filled in for a useful search. The result table holds a small but useful set of columns. A separate alphabetic index across four warrant pages backs up the form when a user wants to browse rather than search by name.

The field labels below come from the live form and the source HTML on the official page. Knowing the field names ahead of time helps when you want to script a quick check on a regular schedule or train a new staffer to run the lookup.

Field LabelTypeRequiredNotes / Format

First NameTextOptionalHTML name fnam, size 10; first initial allowed or blank.

RaceResult columnn/aOne-letter code.
SexResult columnn/aM or F.
Date of BirthResult columnn/aMM-DD-YYYY.
AgencyResult columnn/aLPD or LSO.
ChargeResult columnn/aCharge text or short code.
PhotoResult columnn/aMug image when on file; otherwise "no photo".

LPD in the Agency column means Lincoln Police Department. LSO means Lancaster Sheriff's Office. The two agencies share the warrant pool and feed entries into the same list. A name can carry warrants from either or both. The list lags real bookings by a short time, so a warrant that was cleared an hour ago may still appear on the next page load.

Types of Lancaster County Warrants

The local warrant list mixes several legal categories under one screen. The most common entries are bench warrants tied to a missed court date or unpaid court costs. Felony arrest warrants from new charges also show up here. Civil capias warrants for failure to appear in a civil case are less common but do appear. The warrant list does not break out type as a column, so the charge text is the best clue to category.

The list uses two short codes that show up across many rows. BW FTA stands for bench warrant, failure to appear. BW FTP stands for bench warrant, failure to pay. Both are issued by a judge after a court order is ignored. A judge can lift either by recalling the warrant once the person appears or pays the cost owed. Other rows carry full charge text such as theft, assault, drug possession, or driving offenses.

  • Arrest warrants are signed by a judge to allow police to take a named person into custody for a new criminal charge.
  • Bench warrants are issued from the bench when a defendant misses court or breaks a court order; FTA and FTP are the two most common bench warrant types in Lancaster County.
  • Capias warrants bring a witness or party to court when a subpoena or order has been ignored.
  • Search warrants let officers enter and search a place; they do not appear on the public warrant list.
  • Civil warrants can attach to debt and family court matters and may show on the list when issued by a Lancaster County judge.
  • Out-of-state and federal warrants are not on the local list; federal warrants go through PACER and federal court systems instead.

Sealed warrants and juvenile warrants do not appear in the public view. The page also leaves off most administrative items such as material witness orders and certain protected-party warrants.

What a Lancaster County Warrant Record Shows

The warrant list is built for quick review, not for full case detail. Each row carries a short, focused set of fields. The full case file for the underlying charge sits in the JUSTICE court records system. A user who wants the case number, bond, or issuing judge has to take the name from the warrant list and run a court records lookup on the same person. The two systems are linked by the person, not by a shared case ID on the warrant page.

The list below is the inventory of fields visible on a real Lancaster County warrant record row. Treat it as a checklist when you compare two people with similar names. The date of birth column is the most reliable single field for ruling out a name collision.

FieldWhat It Shows
Full NameLast, first, and middle name as filed.
RaceOne-letter race code.
SexM or F.
Date of BirthMM-DD-YYYY; the strongest field for matching identity.
AgencyLPD for Lincoln Police, LSO for Lancaster Sheriff.
ChargeCharge text or short code such as BW FTA or BW FTP.
PhotoMug thumbnail when on file; otherwise marked no photo.
TimestampList-level date and time the file was last refreshed.
Multi-charge RowsOne row per warrant; the same person may appear several times.
Resolution PhoneLancaster County Court 402-441-7291 instruction shown on the page footer.

The warrant list does not show the warrant number, the case number, the bond amount, the issuing judge, or a home address. Addresses are kept off the public list. Bond and judge data sit in the underlying case file. For that detail, run a court records search at Lancaster County court records or call the issuing court directly.

What to Do If You Have an Outstanding Warrant

An active warrant does not pause when ignored. A traffic stop, a routine background check, or an airport screen can trigger an arrest. The safest path is a planned surrender with counsel rather than a roadside arrest. Lancaster County offers several resolution routes, and the right one depends on the charge type, bond status, and whether the warrant is for a missed court date or for a new criminal charge.

Important: Real law enforcement will never call to demand prepaid card or gift card money to clear a warrant. The Sheriff's Office posts a scam warning on its public information page; call 402-441-6500 or 402-441-7724 to verify any suspicious call before paying anything.

The screenshot below is from the official Sheriff's Office page that links the public warrant list, the Court Services Division, and the scam warning. Sheriff Terry T. Wagner has held the office since 1994 and the Warrant Division is one of the units he came up through.

The Sheriff's Office page is the public hub for the warrant list, scam alerts, and Court Services Division contacts that handle most courthouse surrenders.

  1. Confirm the warrant on the official warrant list and write down the agency, charge, and date of birth shown.
  2. Call the Lancaster County Court at 402-441-7291 to ask for the case number, bond amount, and any appearance requirement.
  3. Hire a private attorney, or apply for the Lancaster County Public Defender if you cannot afford counsel.
  4. Arrange a planned surrender at the Adult Detention Facility, 3801 West O Street, Lincoln, NE 68528, with attorney advice on timing and bond.
  5. Pay any court cost or fine ordered by the judge to clear an FTP warrant, then confirm with the clerk that the warrant has been recalled.
  6. Recheck the warrant list a few days after the appearance; the public file may lag a real recall by 24 to 48 hours.

Sealed Warrants and Limited Disclosure

Not every Lancaster County warrant is public. Juvenile warrants stay outside the public list under state juvenile court rules. Sealed warrants are kept off the list until the court order is lifted. Search warrants are generally not posted to the public site because publication would tip off the target of the search. A warrant tied to a sealed case may exist in the court file with no entry on the public warrant page.

State law treats juvenile court records as confidential. A juvenile adjudication is not a criminal conviction under Neb. Rev. Stat. § 43-280. Juvenile sealing has its own track under § 43-2,108.05. Adult set-aside relief sits in § 29-2264. A set-aside removes the conviction's legal effect but does not erase every law-enforcement system entry. A party who needs to inspect a sealed warrant file usually needs party status or a court order.

Crime Stoppers and Tip Lines

The official warrant page lists tip lines for anyone who sees a person who is wanted. Tips can be anonymous. The Sheriff's Office and the Lincoln Police Department both staff a public contact channel for warrant information and run a joint Crime Stoppers line.

The contact list below is taken from the official warrant page footer. Use the right channel for the right purpose. Routine status checks belong with the court clerk, not the tip line. Time-sensitive sightings belong with the Warrant Desk or Crime Stoppers.

  • Law Enforcement Warrant Desk: 402-441-6000 for tips and warrant questions.
  • Crime Stoppers: 402-475-3600 for anonymous tips.
  • Lincoln Police Department: email LPD@cjis.lincoln.ne.gov.
  • Lancaster Sheriff's Office: email LSO@lancaster.ne.gov.
  • Court Status: Lancaster County Court 402-441-7291 for case, bond, and appearance details.

Tip line callers do not need to give a name. Crime Stoppers rewards are paid based on the outcome of the tip, and the program is run by a non-profit board that works with both agencies.

The County Attorney, Patrick F. Condon, files the criminal cases that lead to most arrest warrants. Felony and serious misdemeanor charges flow from agency reports to the County Attorney's Criminal Division and into either County Court or District Court. The directory of County Attorney divisions covers Criminal, Juvenile, Domestic Violence, Narcotics, Sexual Assault, Traffic, White Collar, and Problem Solving Courts groups that touch warrant cases at different stages.

Note: Always confirm a warrant by calling the Lancaster County Court before any in-person action; the public list lags real recalls by about a day.
